7-keto-DHEA is formed from dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in the body. DHEA is a hormone produced by specific glands near the kidneys. However, unlike DHEA, 7-keto-DHEA is not converted into steroid hormones such as androgen and estrogen. Preliminary studies have shown that DHEA prevents the accumulation of fat due to its thermogenic, or heat-producing, properties.
